Sweeping Wind is a Spirit Generating Monk skill unlocked at Level 17. The Monk sweeps his weapon with great force, hitting multiple enemies.

This is one of the Monk's combo skills. Combo skills generate Spirit.

Sweeping Wind in action

Falling back on years of vigorous training, the Monk sweeps his weapon quickly around himself, damaging multiple enemies at a time.

Generate: 6 Spirit per attack

Strike a target for 100% weapon damage. Every third hit creates a vortex of air that surrounds you. The vortex of air lasts 5 seconds and deals 20% weapon damage per second to all enemies within 10 yards. This vortex effect can stack up to 3 times for a total of 60% weapon damage per second to nearby enemies.

Blade Storm Intensify the vortex, increasing the damage per stack to 44% weapon damage per second. This increases the damage with 3 stacks to 132% weapon damage per second.

Fire Storm Increases the radius of the vortex to 14 yards and the damage per stack to 36% weapon damage per second as Fire damage. This increases the damage with 3 stacks to 108% weapon damage per second.

Cyclone While your vortex is at the maximum stack count, every third hit spawns a lightning tornado that periodically shocks nearby enemies for 66% weapon damage as Lightning damage. Each spawned lightning tornado lasts 3 seconds.

Inner Storm As long as your vortex is at the maximum stack count, you gain 2.4 Spirit per second.

Master of Wind Increases the duration of the vortex buff to 12 seconds.

Skill Design

This skill first appeared at BlizzCon 2010.

Combo skills are essential for Monks. Combos do bonus damage, grant special properties (i.e. lightning damage and interrupt attacks on Hands of Lightning), and build up the Spirit needed to cast other skills. All combos have three stages, each progressively more powerful and flashier.

Development

Sweeping Wind was first shown at BlizzCon 2010. Skill tiers were removed for the July 2011 Press Event, and Sweeping Wind became a level 17 skill.
