Dire Bats

x is a rune effect in Firebats, a Physical Realm Witch Doctor skill.

This rune effect summons fewer bats, but the ones that appear are much larger, deal more damage, and travel further from the Witch Doctor.

The drawback for those improvements is a much slower firing rate. With this skill the Witch Doctor basically sends out one huge bat every second or so, almost like a slow, flapping projectile, rather than filling the air with a non-stop stream of smaller bats. This skill does very impressive damage, but the mana cost is high, and as the bat moves with some erratic left and right jigs, it can miss enemies near the extend of its range.

Call forth a swarm of fiery bats to burn enemies in front of you for 475% weapon damage as Fire.

Dire Bats
1 Summon fewer but larger bats that travel a long distance and deal 500% weapon damage as Fire.

Prior to the skill revision in February 2012, this rune effect was enabled by the Crimson Rune, granting the following effect with a level 7 runestone:
