Diamonds were introduced into Diablo 3 in Loot 2.0, when Diablo 3 version 2 launched in late February 2014. They are also found in Reaper of Souls.

The fifth type of gem in the game, Diamonds add new properties when socketed into weapons and armor. Other gems in the game are Amethyst, Emerald, Ruby, and Topaz. See the main gems article for full details about gem scarcity, upgrade recipes, strategy, and more.

Diamonds are most sought for their All Resistance boost when socketed in armor, and are especially popular for Hardcore characters. They also grant cooldown reduction in helms (the only gem in a helm that actively boosts damage output) and +damage to Elites in weapons.
