Hopefully soon to be revealed, but the wording of the skill is enough to fuel some speculation. It is described as "mechanical contraptions" whereas [[Spike Trap]] is clearly labeled as a trap. As it is a trap, there are only a certain number of them allowed in the playing field at any time. Perhaps the wording of Shock Spike is written so as to avoid it being a trap with such limitations placed on it.
