Gem Essence is a crafting material introduced in Patch 2.3. Each Essence costs 500,000 gold and is sold by Squirt the Peddler in the Act Two town.
Gem Essences are of use only in the Darkness of Radament recipe via Kanai's Cube, and have no other function except as part of this recipe.
The Gem Essence is consumed by the recipe, putting a 500k cost on each use of this recipe. Players without massive gold riches are wise to level up the gems before converting them, rather than converting lots more lower level gems.
