Death's Breath (DB) is a crafting material that may be dropped by Elites, Treasure Goblins, and Resplendent Chests above level 61 at all levels in Reaper of Souls. DBs are not found in [[Diablo 3. This material is the higher tier version of the Demonic Essencevanilla crafting material, which has the same drop rates from the same sources, though only from enemies and targets below level 61.
Deaths Breaths are not a legendary material, though they are required in virtually all level 60+ and most crafting recipes, enchanting via the end gamemystic crafting recipes in Reaper of Souls. These include , and higher level gem upgrading and artisan training costs. Their value increased considerably in Patch 2.3 when ArtisanKanai's Cubewas added to the game, with many powerful recipes, most of which require multiple DBs. Since Death's, Breath are enchantingaccount bound(BoA), drop primarily from Elites, and drop at higher rates on higher difficulties, upgrading they can function as a gemsbottleneck on crafting and other item upgrading in Reaper of Souls. Players newly arrived at level 70 (Royal especially in a new season) often find themselves constantly out of Death's Breaths, and rationing the ones they do find between many competing potential purposes.  This shortage eases as characters gain in power and Flawless Royal quality1)stop needing to constantly spend DBs to upgrade their gear, and crafting2) find more DBs more quickly by killing more elites on higher difficulty levels.
Since Death's Breath are account bound (BoA), drop primarily from Elites, and drop at higher rates on higher difficulties, they can function as a bottleneck on crafting and other item upgrading in Reaper of Souls. Most players felt this acutely when first starting out in Reaper of Souls, since Artisan training and almost all item enchanting requires Death's Breaths, but the shortage didn't last long and most players have hundreds of Death's Breaths stacked up not long after they begin farming at level 70.
Death's Breath Drop Rates
Blizzard provided the drop rates for Deaths Breaths when complaints about their infrequency were voiced shortly after the launch of Reaper of Souls. These drop rates are the same chances for a DB to drop from any valid source; opening a golden chest, killing an Demonic EssenceElite and all monster (yellow or blue), or killing a legendary materialsTreasure Goblin, when counted from valid sources.
* Normal – 15%
* Torment 6 – 77%
These items can Patch 2.(Reaper of Souls only) 3 added four higher levels of Torment, with increased DB drop from Elites rates. (Figures are approximate, pending Blizzard releasing official data.)* 7s or – 90%* 8 – 100%, 5% chance of a 2nd DB.* 9s)– 100%, 15% chance of a 2nd DB.* 10 – 100%, 25% chance of a 2nd DB.  ==Development== Prior to 2.3, Death'sBreath were only found above level 61. Below that level there were different versions of all materials, as well as from Treasure Goblins and Resplendent Chestsplayers found Demonic Essence instead of Death's Breath. Many players insist their drop rates from sources other than Blue or Yellow Elites are much lower than Patch 2.3 streamlined the officially listed figurescrafting materials, but Blizzard disputes thatand all existing Demonic Essence were transformed into DBs.
