Mantra of Retribution

Mantra of Retribution (formerly named Retribution Aura) is a Mantra Monk skill unlocked at Level 21. The Monk activates an aura that reflects damage.

The Monk expends spirit to activate an aura for himself and his party that reflects damage back to attackers.

1 Cost: 50 Spirit

Active: Increase the amount of damage dealt to 202% for 3 seconds.

Passive: You and your allies within 60 yards deal 101% of your weapon damage as Holy to attackers when blocking, dodging or getting hit.

Only one Mantra may be active at a time.

MedRuneA Retaliation
1 Passive: Increase the amount of damage inflicted by Mantra of Retribution to 202% weapon damage as Fire.
MedRuneB Transgression
1 Passive: Mantra of Retribution also increases attack speed by 10% for you and your allies.
MedRuneC Indignation
1 Passive: Enemies damaged by Mantra of Retribution have a 20% chance to be stunned for 3 seconds.
MedRuneD Against All Odds
1 Passive: Mantra of Retribution has a chance to restore 3 Spirit when dealing damage.
MedRuneE Collateral Damage
1 Passive: Enemies damaged by Mantra of Retribution have a 75% chance to suffer a feedback blast, dealing 101% weapon damage as Holy to itself and nearby enemies.

Skill Design[edit]

This skill first appeared at BlizzCon 2010. There are currently no visuals available for the skill, and no reports on it from demo players. It was revealed in the skill tree.


The following Monk passives provide a benefit to Mantra of Retribution, runed or not:

1 The Spirit costs of Mantra activation effects are reduced by 50% and you gain 4 Spirit every second when you have a Mantra learned.


Mantra of Retribution (as Retribution Aura) was first revealed at BlizzCon 2010 as a Tier VI skill but had never been seen in gameplay.

Before the July 2011 Press Event, Retribution Aura was renamed Mantra of Retribution. Skill tiers were also removed, and Mantra of Retribution became a level 9 skill.


When the beta started in September 2011, Mantra of Retribution remained a level 9 skill. The skill system was once again overhauled for the Beta Patch 13 in February 2012, and Mantra of Retribution was classified as a Conviction skill and moved to level 15. For Beta Patch 14, the "Conviction" category was renamed "Mantras" and Mantra of Retribution was bumped up to level 21.

In Other Games[edit]

Retribution Aura will be a familiar skill to players of WarCraft III and World of WarCraft, which was a skill utilized by the Paladin in those games.

This skill is an updated version of Diablo II's Paladin Offensive Aura Thorns. Thorns only reflects physical, melee damage.
